I went to have a coffee with a friend last week, she was visiting from London and we hadn’t seen each other for a good few months so there was plenty to catch up on!
“Where have you been, you look so well and lovely and brown?” she asked as I sat down opposite her in one of our coffee shops in the village.
“Nowhere, I have just been enjoying some of this amazing weather we have been having recently and I have started going for Reiki once a month too, so I feel quite energised and less tired”
The conversation switched to talk of work, kids, partners and I could see she had something on her mind and she seemed to be a little anxious.
She began to tell me that she had no time for herself lately, she hadn’t been looking after herself properly, she said she felt ‘Burnout’. I listened as one problem leads to another and that my friend sounded a little depressed. I waited until she finished telling me that her father in law had died a few months previously and that there was a lot to sort out and that things were quite stressful at home.
“Sorry to ramble on, I bet you think I am really sad”! she said as she half laughed and started to finish the coffee that must have been cold, she looked very preoccupied.
“Not at all, it’s really good to talk and you know I am always here for you if you need anything” was my response.
“Thanks, that means a lot, just don’t know what to do with myself, I need a big magic wand to sort me out” she cajoled.
I sat and checked my phone as I had another appointment, but I could tell my friend needed a break.
I have such a lot going on myself, running my own business, family life and making sure I look after myself, wellbeing is so important to me, but I knew my friend was not in a good place… I didn’t want to be patronising by suggesting she went for some Reiki, it isn’t a magic wand, but we all live in the real world, and we know that just doesn’t exist.
“It’s been so good to see you, and you look so radiant, I don’t know how you do it with your busy life, what’s your secret?”
“There is no secret, but I can tell you that since I met my Reiki Practitioner it really has changed my life, I have a Reiki Treatment once a month and it just kind of balanced me out, I feel energised, and it helps me to sleep so much better.”
“How do I get a Reiki Practitioner?” she quickly asked sounded really desperate.
“Well I did some research a while ago after reading an article in a women’s well-being magazine, and I thought I would give it a go.”
I told her that I had been going through a stressful time at work and was starting my own company and not sleeping well. I said that I found a couple of local practitioners through some local groups on Facebook and tried two practitioners, they were slightly different from each other but the one I chose made me feel really comfortable so I stuck with her, and I was keeping it up on a monthly basis as I felt it was a great investment in my general mental health and day to day living.
I said that she needed to do some research in her area of practitioners and seek out the best one for her, I advised her that a Reiki practitioner never make recommendations outside of their expertise and certainly should not give you any grandiose claims or make promises to heal you of life-threatening illness or conditions.
She straight away said
“I am not dying, I am just exhausted and never switch off.”
“I think it will help you in so many ways, you must try it, when you find the right person you will know intuitively that they are the right practitioner for you and make you feel comfortable and relaxed in their presence.”
“What does this Reiki business do to you though” she sounded puzzled.
“Usually on the first visit the practitioner will go through a few questions with you to get a bit of background, but they wouldn’t be evasive, and I said they will assure you of what is going on throughout the treatment, whether they touch you or not, it depends on the practitioner.”
My friend looked a bit confused and I assured her that it would be a simple hand touch on the body where the practitioner might need to focus on a certain area and that is was quite normal and all part of the treatment.
“It makes you feel so relaxed when you are in the treatment, you escape from everything and sometimes you fall asleep” I said.
“Wow, that sounds amazing, just what I need” she replied.
“It has so many benefits to it though, the practitioner will be able to find out through certain areas of your body what is actually going on with you, stress, anxiety, problems with your health and all kinds of things, they can then make suggestions for you”
“Wow, it really does sound like a magic wand” !!

Today is World Cancer Day.
World Cancer Day is an international day marked on February 4 to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. (Wikipedia)
Throughout my life cancer has touched close family members and friends.
As a holistic practitioner, clients like to come to me for Reiki for relaxation, stress reduction and promote overall wellbeing.
The Reiki works beautifully alongside any medical treatment the clients may be undergoing, to help ease feelings of discomfort, pain or nausea and is safe, non-invasive and effective.
I am so grateful to be able to share Reiki with those around me and am pleased to report more and more medical professionals are recommending Reiki as a complementary therapy.
Typically clients have a Reiki treatment the day before their chemotherapy treatment, but it can also be received as and when the client wishes.
A few years ago I wrote a short blog about my first Reiki experience you can read it here
If you have cancer or know someone who had been affected by it, Beechwood Cancer Care in Stockport offers fantastic support.
I have been fortunate to have taken a course there and see first hand the beautiful facilities and experience how friendly the staff and volunteers are.
Beechwood is also one of the charities I donate to. Please click on the link below to find out more.
Sometimes clients also need someone to talk to or a shoulder to cry on; I can give them the support and care they need at that time.
Appointments are available either in my tranquil treatment room in Prestbury or in the comfort of your own home.
Please email me at [email protected] to for further information or to book an appointment.

Holistic therapy has helped me so much over the years and one of my main reasons for starting this business, was that it would provide me with an opportunity to help others.
I know all too well how damaging stress can be to one’s mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.
I have had my fair share of difficulties and faced numerous stressful situations. If it was not for my use of Holistic therapies, I am not sure where I would be today.
I have recently been appointed a preferred provider for the Reproductive Health Group and tonight I will be giving a presentation on Mindfulness for infertility, at Chester Racecourse.
More specifically, a presentation on how I use my services to help couples prepare their minds either before, during or after IVF treatment.
An emotional rollercoaster is certainly to be expected, and in many cases, the couple will have already been through many disappointments.
The desire to have a child when the odds are stacked against you, will undoubtedly feel overwhelming.
The treatments I offer at Blossom Wellbeing in Cheshire are perfect for those trying to conceive naturally or experiencing fertility issues.
As a Reiki practitioner, I identify the areas where energy is blocked and work to restore these.
Reiki treatment for those trying to conceive should begin as soon as possible to address energy levels before the next reproductive cycle.
In addition to Reiki, I use a combination of EFT and Mindfulness Meditation techniques to promote healing and eliminate disruptive energies derived from past traumas and negative thoughts.
Essential oils also play a major role in preparing my clients for IVF treatment. I understand in London it is common practice to offer Reiki with IVF treatment.
Being able to promote the benefits of natural, holistic therapies to hopeful couples is a huge milestone in my career as a Practitioner.
Having previously battled with illnesses such as Depression and Insomnia and having successfully treated myself with the very services I offer, it is important for me to be able to share this with those who are looking to positively enhance their general wellbeing.
As a Holistic Therapist, helping couples in this way is one of the most rewarding aspects of my profession.
Here is what one of my recent clients had to say about her sessions with Blossom Wellbeing:
“I have been trying for a baby for almost three years and during those years I have felt anxious and low about everything. I read an article about Penny and EFT and Reiki intrigued me. I have had three Reiki and two EFT sessions and I haven’t felt this positive in years! Penny is calming, compassionate and a great listener. I couldn’t recommend her enough for couples going through infertility issues. “ – Helen Brackley
If you and your partner are experiencing fertility problems, grieving a pregnancy loss or preparing for IVF and you think you would benefit from one of my treatment packages, please get in touch.
