HOPI
EAR CANDLING
30 MINS
£45

A lovely little treatment that might just surprise you

Hopi Ear Candling | 30 minutes | £45

Have you ever tried Hopi Ear Candling?

It's one of those treatments that people are often curious about, particularly if they've never experienced anything like it before.

Also known as Thermo Auricular Therapy, Hopi Ear Candling is a traditional complementary treatment involving specially designed hollow ear candles.

I've been offering this treatment for around 15 years, and I still have regular clients who enjoy coming back.

It's a relatively short appointment, but it gives you the opportunity to lie back, get comfortable and have a little time to yourself.

Some people drift off to sleep.

Others prefer to have a good gossip.

Either is absolutely fine with me!

Why I first tried Hopi Ear Candling

I originally discovered Hopi Ear Candling when I was having a particularly difficult time with my sinuses.

I remember lying there during the treatment and physically feeling what seemed like my sinuses clearing. I could breathe more freely, and afterwards my head felt lighter and clearer.

That was my personal experience, and it's something I've never forgotten.

But what really surprised me was how pleasant the treatment itself felt.

I remember a lovely, subtle sensation inside my ear while the practitioner held the candle in place.

It wasn't somebody poking around or massaging inside my ear. It felt completely different.

And I found it so relaxing that I fell asleep!

I enjoyed the experience enough to want to learn how to offer it myself.

So I went on to train professionally in Hopi Ear Candling, and it became one of the complementary treatments I offer at The Reiki One.

Of course, everybody's experience is different. My own feeling of relief was personal to me; ear candling hasn't been clinically demonstrated to clear sinuses or treat ear conditions.

Your body. Your choice. No pressure.

Hopi Ear Candling - £45

What exactly is Hopi Ear Candling?

Hopi Ear Candling, sometimes called Thermo Auricular Therapy, involves using specially designed hollow candles made from fabric and wax.

During the treatment, the narrow end of the candle is positioned at the entrance to the ear while the opposite end is lit.

The candle is held and monitored throughout the procedure, and each ear is treated separately.

You may hear a gentle crackling or rustling sound as the candle burns, and there can be subtle sensations around the ear.

Some people find the experience surprisingly soothing.

Although ear candling has traditionally been associated with ear and sinus wellbeing, it isn't a proven method of removing earwax or treating medical conditions.

It also involves a lit candle near the ear, so understanding the risks and deciding whether you're comfortable with the procedure is an important part of the appointment.

What happens during your appointment?

1. YOUR CONSULTATION COMES FIRST

Before beginning, we'll complete my specialist Hopi Ear Candling consultation form.

This isn't the same questionnaire I use for Reiki.

It's specifically designed to explore your ear health, relevant medical history and anything that might affect whether the procedure is appropriate for you.

I'll ask about things such as previous ear problems, infections, medication, allergies, sinus symptoms and any previous procedures involving your ears.

For example, I've had grommets myself, on and off throughout my life, so I'm particularly conscious of the importance of asking about them.

We'll also discuss the procedure and its potential risks.

I'm a great believer in setting yourself up for success rather than failure, and for me that begins with having a proper conversation.

I want you to understand what's involved, feel comfortable asking questions and make your own informed decision.

If you have any concerns whatsoever, my recommendation is that you don't go ahead with the treatment.

There's absolutely no pressure.

And if your consultation identifies something that makes the procedure unsuitable, I won't proceed.

2. GETTING LOVELY AND COMFORTABLE

Your appointment takes place in my cosy treatment room at One Inner Beauty Studio in Alderley Edge.

There's underfloor heating, a heated treatment bed, soft lighting and beautiful blankets.

I've always been quite particular about making my treatment room feel welcoming.

I've even climbed onto the treatment bed myself to see exactly what my clients see when they're lying there!

I want you to feel comfortable enough to settle in and enjoy your time with me.

You'll remain fully clothed for your appointment, and I'll explain how to position yourself on your side so that I can work with each ear.

If you need a pillow, an extra blanket or anything adjusted, just ask.

3. YOUR EAR CANDLING TREATMENT

Once you're comfortable, I'll begin the procedure, treating one ear at a time.

I hold and monitor the candle throughout and use a purpose-made, silver-backed protective disc around it.

When I first started training, I remember being rather nervous about working with a lit candle so close to somebody's head.

Understandably!

But after many years of offering Hopi Ear Candling, I've become familiar with how the candles behave and the importance of being attentive throughout.

As the candle burns, you may hear a soft crackling sound or notice a gentle sensation around your ear.

There's nothing you need to do.

You can close your eyes and enjoy some quiet time if that's what you fancy.

Or we can have a chat.

In fact, one of my regular clients loves a really good gossip while she's having her treatment!

She certainly doesn't fall asleep.

And that's absolutely fine.

I love that everybody experiences their appointment in their own way.

My training and approach

I completed my professional Hopi Ear Candling training through Gateway Workshops, studying Thermo Auricular Therapy.

The accredited diploma course included the theory of ear candling, practical application, relevant anatomy and physiology, consultation procedures and a practical assessment.

The training also covered a facial massage sequence, although my own 30-minute Hopi Ear Candling appointment focuses on the candles themselves.

Over approximately 15 years, I've developed a consistent approach to preparing for and carrying out the treatment.

I use protective discs, monitor the candle throughout and pay close attention to the practical details.

I've never experienced candle wax dripping onto a client during one of my appointments.

That matters to me because I take my responsibilities seriously.

Of course, experience and precautions cannot eliminate every risk of working with a flame, and I'm always happy to discuss that with you before you decide whether to proceed.

What might you experience?

Everyone is different.

Some clients find the gentle sounds and sensations relaxing.

Some enjoy lying quietly with their eyes closed.

Some fall asleep, as I did during my very first treatment.

And others enjoy the opportunity to chat.

You may feel pleasantly relaxed afterwards, or you may notice very little difference.

There isn't a particular result that you're supposed to experience.

I don't want you lying there wondering whether you're doing something wrong.

You're not.

My own first treatment left me feeling lighter and clearer in my head, but I wouldn't promise that somebody else will experience the same thing.

Your comfort and choice always come first

I want everybody who visits me to feel seen, heard and respected.

That means being upfront about the nature of the treatment.

Ear candling isn't recommended by medical authorities as a treatment for earwax, tinnitus, sinusitis or other ear conditions because its medical benefits haven't been demonstrated.

There are also recognised risks, including burns, candle wax entering the ear, irritation and injury to the ear canal or eardrum.

My training, experience and protective equipment do not remove those risks.

If you have ear pain, discharge, an infection, hearing changes, a perforated eardrum, grommets or previous ear surgery, please tell me before booking.

And if you're concerned about an ear-related symptom, it's best to seek appropriate medical advice rather than using ear candling to address it.

I'll always explain the procedure and answer your questions.

If you don't feel comfortable going ahead, that's absolutely fine.

Your body. Your choice. No pressure.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Hopi Ear Candling take?

My Hopi Ear Candling appointment is advertised as 30 minutes and includes the procedure and a specialist consultation.

How much does the treatment cost?

The appointment costs £45.

Does Hopi Ear Candling remove earwax?

Ear candling has traditionally been associated with ear cleansing, but reliable research hasn't demonstrated that it removes earwax. It should not be used as a replacement for appropriate earwax treatment.

Can it help with sinus problems?

I personally experienced a sensation of my sinuses clearing during my first treatment, and I remember feeling able to breathe more freely afterwards.

However, that was my individual experience. Ear candling hasn't been clinically demonstrated to clear the sinuses or treat sinus conditions.

What does the treatment feel like?

You may notice a gentle crackling sound and subtle sensations around the ear. Some people find it relaxing, while others experience very little.

Do you massage the ears or face?

No. My current 30-minute Hopi Ear Candling appointment focuses on the ear candling procedure itself.

Can I fall asleep?

You may find yourself getting sleepy, although I need you to remain able to respond to me and any instructions during the procedure.

If you'd rather chat, that's absolutely fine too.

Is ear candling suitable for everybody?

No. There are medical and practical considerations that need to be discussed beforehand.

That's why I use a specialist consultation form and assess whether the procedure is appropriate.

Does the procedure carry any risks?

Yes. It involves an open flame near the head and carries risks of burns, falling candle material, wax entering the ear and injury to the ear canal or eardrum.

I'll explain these before asking for your consent.

What if I change my mind?

You can decline the treatment or ask me to stop at any point.

I would much rather you feel comfortable with your decision than continue with something you're unsure about.

Do I need to take my clothes off?

Not at all. You remain fully clothed.

Can I ask questions before booking?

Absolutely.

If you're unsure about anything, you're very welcome to get in touch.
