Because looking after yourself shouldn't be a last resort
You know that feeling when life starts getting a little bit too much?
You're doing everything you're supposed to be doing. Work, family, appointments, responsibilities, everybody else's needs.
And somewhere in the middle of all that, you've forgotten about yourself again.
Well, this is your reminder that you don't have to wait until you're completely exhausted to make time for yourself.
My 60-minute Reiki Refresh is an opportunity to step away from everything for a little while, put your feet up and let somebody else look after you.
No demands. No expectations. No endless to-do list running through your head.
Just a little time that's entirely yours.
Please note: Reiki Refresh is for returning clients. If you've never had Reiki with me before, your first appointment will be my signature 90-minute Reiki Experience.
What is Reiki Refresh?
Reiki Refresh is my regular Reiki treatment for clients who've already had their first Reiki Experience with me.
It's an opportunity to continue receiving Reiki without needing the longer consultation, foot cleansing ritual and guided meditation that form part of your initial 90-minute experience.
By now, we've already met.
I've got to know a little about you, how you experience Reiki and what you're comfortable with.
And you've got to know me, my treatment room and how I work.
So we can spend more of our appointment simply enjoying the Reiki.
I work intuitively, drawing on around 20 years of Reiki practice, my training as a Reiki Master and the observations I make during your treatment.
Sometimes I'll work through the whole body, from the top of your head down to your feet.
Other times, particularly with returning clients, I'll be intuitively drawn to spend longer working with particular chakras or areas.
Every treatment is personal.
And every time you come to see me, you might be feeling completely different.
That's why I never assume that what you needed last time is necessarily what you need today.
What happens during your Reiki Refresh?
1. First, we'll have a little catch-up
I always like to know how you've been since I last saw you.
How are you feeling?
What's been going on in your life?
Have you noticed anything since your previous treatment?
Is there anything you'd particularly like me to focus on today?
Sometimes you'll have plenty to tell me.
Other times, you might simply say, "I'm absolutely knackered, Penelope. I just want to lie down."
And that's absolutely fine!
You don't have to arrive with something profound to discuss.
You can just come for Reiki.
2. Then it's time to get comfortable
If you've visited me before, you'll already know how much I love creating a warm, cosy treatment room.
There's underfloor heating, a heated treatment bed, beautiful blankets, soft lighting and my lovely floral mural.
I've put a lot of thought into how the room feels, because I want you to be comfortable enough to forget about everything else for a little while.
You'll remain fully clothed for your Reiki.
I'll make sure you're happy with the temperature and your position on the bed, and you can ask for a pillow beneath your knees or an extra blanket if you'd like one.
And remember, you're not expected to lie there rigidly.
If you need to move, move.
If you want something changed, tell me.
I want you to be comfortable.
3. Your Reiki treatment
Reiki is a Japanese spiritual energy-healing practice based on the traditional understanding of universal life force energy.
In my practice, I see myself as a channel for Reiki energy, rather than the person doing the healing to you.
My intention is to support you in reconnecting with your own inner capacity for healing and balance.
I'll ask whether you're happy with hands-on Reiki or whether you'd prefer me to work hands-off.
It's always your choice.
I'll then begin your Reiki treatment, working intuitively with the body's energy centres.
I use traditional Usui Reiki symbols as part of my practice, alongside the intuition I've developed through years of working with clients.
Sometimes I notice colours, patterns or images.
Sometimes I sense areas where, within my Reiki understanding, the energy feels out of balance.
And sometimes I'm simply guided to spend a little longer in one particular area.
There's nothing you need to concentrate on or make happen.
You can close your eyes, relax and let me do all the work.
What might you experience?
Even when you've had Reiki before, no two sessions necessarily feel the same.
You might notice warmth, tingling, colours or patterns.
You might feel as though you're floating.
You might find that thoughts or memories come into your awareness.
Or you might simply drift off to sleep.
In fact, when somebody starts snoring, I take it as a compliment!
You don't have to stay awake or follow what's happening.
And if you don't notice any particular sensations, that's fine too.
I don't expect you to experience Reiki in a certain way, and I certainly don't want you lying there worrying about whether you're doing it correctly.
There is no right or wrong way to receive Reiki.
What happens at the end of your appointment?
One thing I feel strongly about is that I don't want somebody to leave my treatment room wondering what on earth has just happened.
I've experienced that myself, and I didn't particularly enjoy it.
So when your Reiki is finished, I'll share what I experienced during the treatment.
That might include colours, intuitive impressions, images or areas where I've sensed an energetic imbalance.
I always explain what I've perceived before asking about your experience, because I don't want your answers influencing what I tell you.
And I don't attach my own story to everything.
If I've seen something, I'll tell you what I've seen.
It might mean something to you, or it might not.
You are free to interpret it in your own way.
These are my personal intuitive and spiritual observations, not medical diagnoses.
Your oracle card
I finish every Reiki session by pulling an oracle card.
And do you know what?
After all these years, it still amazes me how often the card seems to reflect what we've been discussing.
It's freaky!
I'll share my interpretation with you, and you're welcome to photograph the card to take a little reminder home.
Personalised aftercare
I'll also share any suggestions I feel might be helpful before your next appointment.
It might be a short meditation, a breathing exercise, spending time in nature or making space for something creative.
Sometimes I'll recommend something connected to the chakra I've been focusing on.
I'll also remind you of my Reiki aftercare recommendations, including drinking plenty of water, avoiding alcohol after your treatment and allowing yourself some time to rest.
My recommendations are grounded in my Reiki training and traditional spiritual understanding of energetic cleansing and integration.
Why I believe in regular Reiki
This is something I've felt strongly about for years.
Why do we wait until we're completely overwhelmed before we do something to look after ourselves?
I don't believe wellbeing should be something we only think about when everything has gone wrong.
For me, it's about making time for ourselves regularly.
Not waiting until we're exhausted, running on empty and wondering how on earth we're going to get through another week.
I think it's important to have something in the diary that's just for you.
Something you can look forward to.
Something that gives you permission to stop.
When I first discovered Reiki properly, I started having treatments every week.
And I continued for years because I found them so supportive during a particularly difficult period of my life.
It became an hour I knew was coming.
An hour where nobody needed anything from me.
And I think that feeling of having something to look forward to can be valuable in itself.
Today, my approach to Reiki is very much about preventative wellbeing.
Rather than treating rest as a luxury, I'd love more people to see it as something worth making space for regularly.
How often should you book Reiki Refresh?
There's no single schedule that's right for everybody.
Some clients begin with three weekly sessions and then move towards a more regular maintenance routine.
Others prefer appointments every fortnight or once a month.
And some come back when they feel drawn to having another treatment.
I'll always tell you what I would recommend based on our conversations, my observations and what you're hoping to get from Reiki.
I might suggest coming back next week, in two weeks or in a month.
But I won't recommend treatments simply for the sake of filling my diary.
And you don't need to commit to a package.
You can book individual Reiki Refresh appointments or explore my Reiki packages if you'd like to make regular treatments part of your routine.
The decision is always yours.
Who is Reiki Refresh for?
Reiki Refresh might be right for you if:
You've already experienced my signature 90-minute Reiki Experience.
You'd like to make Reiki a regular part of your wellbeing routine.
You're juggling work, family or other responsibilities and want some time for yourself.
You enjoy Reiki and would like to continue exploring the experience.
You'd like an appointment focused on Reiki without the longer introductory rituals.
You simply want an hour when you don't have to look after anybody else.
You don't have to be experiencing a crisis to come for Reiki.
Sometimes wanting a little peace and quiet is reason enough.
Reiki is a complementary spiritual wellbeing practice and isn't a substitute for medical or psychological care.
Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between Reiki Refresh and the 90-minute Reiki Experience?
The 90-minute Reiki Experience is your first appointment with me. It includes a more extensive wellbeing consultation, personalised essential oils, my foot cleansing ritual, a guided meditation and Reiki.
Reiki Refresh is a shorter, Reiki-focused appointment for returning clients. We still have time to catch up, receive Reiki and discuss what I've experienced afterwards.
Can I book Reiki Refresh if I've never been to you before?
No. Your first Reiki appointment with me needs to be the 90-minute Reiki Experience so that we can get to know each other and introduce you to the treatment properly.
Do I have to have Reiki every week?
Not at all. I'll recommend a treatment rhythm if I think it might be helpful, but you're free to book appointments at a frequency that suits you.
Will you use crystals during my treatment?
I sometimes use crystals as part of my intuitive approach to Reiki. If I feel drawn to incorporating them, I'll check that you're comfortable with that.
Do I have to be touched?
No. You can choose hands-on or hands-off Reiki, and you can change your mind during the treatment.
What if I fall asleep?
That's absolutely fine. I take snoring as a compliment!
What if I want to talk during the appointment?
You're always welcome to ask questions or tell me if something is uncomfortable. Equally, you can enjoy the treatment in silence.
How much is Reiki Refresh?
Reiki Refresh is £70 for a 60-minute treatment, paid when booking.
Can I buy a package of Reiki treatments?
Yes. I offer Reiki packages for clients who want to make regular appointments part of their wellbeing routine. You can explore the current options on my Reiki Packages page.
